SD009 - Sea to Safari Fly-Drive Monday 2nd February, 2009 .....what a superb trip it was, particularly as far as the itinerary and organisation were concerned. It exceeded our expectations in so many regards. Mike My wife Anne and I have just got back from our trip to South Africa which we booked through you, and we wanted to say straight away what a superb trip it was, particularly as far as the itinerary and organisation were concerned. It exceeded our expectations in so many regards. The flight arrangements were perfect. Virgin Atlantic was very good, and I'd certainly use them again. We were met at Jo'burg by your rep - as we walked out to the arrivals hall, our names were far more prominent than anyone else's - we couldn't have missed her! She was very helpful, even calling at the hotel in the evening to make sure we had all the information we needed, and their documentation was superb - the vouchers, the directions, the descriptions, and all the other information, was first class. Collection of the car was very easy. It was a Hyundai Getz - I did comment in the questionnaire afterwards that the two complaints on that score were that it was a vehicle with the indicators and wipers on opposite sides to what I'm used to - which caused some confusion at times! - and the radio controls on the steering wheel could easily get knocked (several times in the quiet of the Kruger I suddenly switched on the radio at high volume, quite unintentionally). Otherwise a very comfortable car for the two of us, just big enough boot for our two cases - and we covered over 5,000km in it. As for the accommodation - well, what can we say. The standard was excellent, much better than we would probably have booked ourselves - and we were grateful it was. The only ones which were a disappointment were the last two in Stellenbosch and Cape Town - they were B&Bs of the standard we would normally book ourselves into, but coming after all the others, they came across as a slight anticlimax. We don't usually eat in such hotels, but the evening meals were actually very good value (we rarely paid more than £30 for the two of us to have the full buffet or a la carte, including drinks) and excellent standard. The highlight on the accommodation was the Lodge at Rorke's Drift which you added in for us - absolutely superb, though the access road is not suitable for a fancy or low-slung car (they actually have a sign at the gate: "Driving a Porsche, Lamborgini or Ferrari? Turn back - you're in the wrong car!"). The welcome was first class, and the setting sublime. The only ways in which we would perhaps have changed the itinerary with the hindsight of having visited, were that we would retain Rorke's Drift but then add in a night in the Drakensburg Mountains just east of Lesotho, before going to Durban; and we ourselves would have reduced the stay in Cape Town by 24 hours (with an evening flight back, we had 3 full days based in the city, which was more than enough to do the main attractions) - but then we're not city visitors, we prefer the country! All told, this was a trip which will live long in our memories. Yes, there were things we found difficult or didn't like about the country - but they were nothing to do with the organised trip, which was brilliant. So thanks for this trip. It was extremely well organised, very good value, and very easy to follow. We'd recommend it to anyone who wanted to see most of the key highlights of South Africa in 3 weeks. And I will be exploring your website in future for possible trips to other parts of the world you cover! Yours Dick and Anne Hewett |
