Description The town of George has become the main commercial centre of the southern Cape between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth with air, road and rail links providing a convenient base from which to explore the Garden Route or the Klein Karoo. Visit the Khulani Xhosa Village to experience Xhosa hospitality and culture. Close by on the coast are Mossel Bay with its beautiful beaches and famous 500-year-old Post Office Tree, and Wilderness, where beaches, lakes, lagoon, indigenous forests and bird species make it a source of inspiration for artists. An excellent way to see part of the Garden Route is on a day trip from George to Knysna aboard the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe steam train which operates daily except on Sundays. Much of the scenery viewed from the train cannot be seen from the road. |
